How To Write A "Thank You" Note

Expressing your gratitude is not always easy. You will have to be very cautious while sending a thank you note. First of all, consider who is the recipient of your appreciation. Then decide whether you need to be formal or informal in your language. While some people choose to call up people and convey their gratitude, it is far better to send a nice thank you text message or a handwritten note. I would always go for a handwritten thank you note in a crisp white paper, than text messages and phone calls. Handwritten notes have depth and sincerity, that cannot be replaced by any other medium.

Here are some pointers for writing a thank you note:-

# Use a nice white or colored sheet of paper and a smooth pen. It is always better to use black or blue ink instead of fancy ones like red, pink or orange. Mention the date on the top of the sheet and begin with a proper salutation like," Dear Mr. Smith," followed by a comma.

# Thank the recipient for the gift, favor or entertainment given.

# Mention how the gift or favor was appropriate and useful for you. "The watch that you gave me is amazing! It has made me more time conscious!" Remember, your gratitude should come from your heart, and not a plain, conventional message.

# Tie the appropriateness of the gift to the person who gave it to you: "You're the only one who understands my passion for music."

# Write about how you plan to use the gift. Give an example like, "I've planned to wear your jacket in my boss's party....it's fabulous!" If you received a gift of money, mention how you will spend it.

# Add a line to update the giver about your life: "I have completely recovered from my cold and plan to hit the slopes again as soon as I can."

# Sign your thank-you note in a short, sweet way: "With thanks, Billy."

# Lastly, fold the sheet nicely and place it in an envelope. Write the recipient's address clearly on the top of the envelope. If the recipient is your office colleague or your boss, place the envelope on the front of their desk, so that it is visible.
